DVD Review: Domino

Supposedly based on the true story of one Domino Harvey, the movie Domino can be summed up by saying: Meh.

I would guess that the "based on a true story" tagline of this one comes from the fact that there was a girl named Domino, she was the daughter of a famous actor, and she became a bounty hunter. Past that, I'm guessing the producers took a few liberties. Like, say, the whole rest of the movie. I'm sitting here trying to come up with some redeeming qualities in the movie, but I am coming up pretty short. What's weird is that it's not that bad of a movie, it's just not that good, either. Unless you are a huge fan of Keira Knightley (which is not a bad thing), don't bother. Ultimately, it becomes one of those movies that never really decides if it is trying to be serious and realistic or not. Which essentially drives me nuts. One way or the other, dang- nabbit!

Incidentally, the real Domino Harvey died shortly before the release of this movie of a drug overdose. So it's a little tough to buy into the whole glamorization of her life. Which is weird, 'cause I figured bounty hunters were the epitome of class.

Your review gets two thumbs up!! Unfortunately I have not seen the movie, but the previews of course looked good. Looking at the picture of her on the people link you put up says a lot.

Tony Scott has done a lot off kewl stuff... so maybe his touches made the movie a "Meh" as opposed to a "ugh"...

Tony Scott did "Man on Fire" which will probably cause me to see just about everything he ever does in hopes that it will be even half as good as that one.

Funny thing, since you brought up that picture of Domino Harvey - Supposedly she was a *model* at one time, yet when you try to search for images of her on the web, that's the only one to be found. I'm guessing that she possibly invented the whole part about "turning down a successful modeling career." Gives her more street cred, man.
Plus, they show the real Domino at the end of the movie. If she was a model, she took quite a fall from that level.

well... just because I can tie a cherry stem into a knot with my tongue, does not mean I am a sailor. Therfore, just because Mom, an actual model, took a photo of her daughter, does not make her photogenic. Pretty simple math, actually. Domino claimed she was a Ford model, but since I knew someone that worked for Ford, I can tell ya... her? Not so much.

And considering that reveiw was done by... what was the term...? Oh yes... King of Keira's Kewl Klub... and it got a "Meh"...

yikes... I think I will pass.

King of Keira's Kewl Klub is in fact el Jeffe. Not me.

And uhh... you can tie a cherry stem with your tongue? Coooool...

Yes, correct usage, just put a question mark after the question. Tends to make more sense that way. ZING!!!

Not what I heard, Twist.

And what is wrong with the bandolier and pistol? That is what I accessorize with when I go to the store.

Jason Evans said...

what cracked me up most about the photograph was the bandolier of ammo and the pistol in the waistband... it was obviously a staged picture... but couldn't she be the 'quiet professional' not so much....

ps- greg... is that the correct use of the term 'not so much'

I have no idea how my last comment ended up *before* Jason's, seeing as how I was RESPONDING to it. Sheesh.

ditto.

Who would win in a fight between "The Jacket" and "Domino"? (from an entire movie standpoint, not her character in each one)
signed,
K.K.K.K.

I think I would have to go with Domino on that one. It did have it's moments, albeit few and far between. The Jacket was... just too weird. At least Domino made me laugh a few times.

Geesh. You kids ever hear of this thing called Google? There's a lot of pictures of Keira mixed in, but there are a few of the real Domino. She wasn't bad looking. Sad what drugs will do to you.
