The "Other" Big Story

ABC's show Nightline is apparently set to air a segment tonight about tapes of Saddam Hussein discussing his weapons of mass destruction plans.

Should be interesting to find out more on this. An Intriguing point brought up by Dave at Garfield Ridge - perhaps Saddam thought he had WMD's because that's what his scientists were telling him. Crazed, homicidal dictators have a knack for surrounding themselves with "yes-men". Or at least men who will say whatever it takes to avoid getting their arms chopped off.

I had never read a description of the abuse, like the one Twist attached. It made me cringe. Why aren't we yelling from the rooftops to have this shown nationally??? Stop showing one side, dang-it-all.

A million thanks to those of you in the Military that are working or have worked towards stopping exactly this type of action. Big Hugs and Kisses to each one of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

In the ramp up to the second gulf war I spent quite a bit of time researching this abuse. The reason it isn't/hasn't been shown to western audiences is that we do not have the stomach to endure viewing these types of abuses. The thought of having loved ones endure torture and abuse such as those imposed by Saddam's regime makes me cringe. I presume that everyone can remember when the congress and then sitting president clinton made regime change in Iraq a matter of policy in October of 98. And then in December of 98 when four carrier groups gathered around the persian gulf we all expected action. At a time when several members of congress and then members of the administration can be quoted as saying we "know the Iraqi regime has weapons of mass destruction" the United States did nothing. In spite of violating sixteen UN resolutions and shooting at aircraft that were enforcing the no fly zones we did nothing. And yet some how the current administration is held suspect of leading the nation to war that is not justified. I don't understand how this is possible. Long live GW for having the testicular fortitude to stand up and say enough is enough. Europe likes to talk...Americans act to preserve our interests. God save the Republic.

Unfortunately, it takes major events such as Operation Iraqi Freedom for some of this to become known publicly. Hopefully the truth will come out, and the public will have a better understanding of why we are over there.
